Hot on the heels of the announcement at the end of May that Keshet International are branching out into Australia, comes the news that the company is to open up in Canada.

Keshet International (KI) is the global distribution and production arm of Keshet Media Group, which is embarking on a joint venture to bring their slate of scripted and unscripted formats to the Canadian market. The new set-up will be called Keshet Canada.

The move also aims to engage the local production industry to develop, produce and co-produce original content. The announcement was made by Keshet International's managing director Alon Shtruzman, who brokered the deal, and veteran Canadian television executive Mark Rubinstein, who will oversee the venture.

Rubinstein is considered one of Canada’s top senior executives, with president and CEO of Insight Sports and COO of Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting among his many former roles.

In a statement he said: “Keshet’s swift international growth in recent years [in December 2012 Keshet UK was formed], is a testament to the company’s ability to transcend international borders with its innovative scripted and unscripted programming. After launching shops in the UK and Australia, it is only natural to add Canada to our production and creative network. We are thrilled to bring Keshet's catalogue to this exciting market that is home to an increasingly burgeoning entertainment industry.”
