John Woo’s latest film, The Crossing, has begun filming in China and Taiwan. The Chinese language war epic features a pan-Asian cast, including Takeshi Kaneshiro, Huang Xiao Ming and Tong Dawei.
Made into a two-parter at a cost of $40m, the film follows three couples from a variety of backgrounds surviving war and disaster of 1940s Taiwan and Shanghai. It’s written by Wang Hui-Ling, who penned Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and is produced by Beijing Galloping Horse (BGH).
It’s been four years since Woo sat in the director’s chair – his last feature was the second part of Red Cliff, which centred on a Chinese battle set during the second century AD.
