Poltergeist remake now underway at Pinewood Toronto Studios
The film would appear to be in safe hands, with The Evil Dead’s Sam Raimi producing via Ghost House Pictures, and Gil Kenan directing from a script by David Lindsay-Abaire, who penned Oz: The Great and Powerful.
It comes from MGM Studios, and although the cast haven’t been confirmed, it is thought the remake will follow a similar story to that of the original.
The seminal 1982 thriller was directed by horror master Tobe Hooper and co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg. It centres on a family whose young daughter is abducted by ghosts and features the famous line ‘They’re here’. The film went on to spawn two sequels, neither of which quite ever matched the original.
Other films recently shot at Pinewood Toronto Studios include Carrie (another horror remake), Pacific Rim, and Total Recall.
