Three of Australia’s most high profile actors – Nicole Kidman, Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce – will return to their homeland to shoot Strangerland, a new film directed by Kim Farrant.
The mystery drama centres on a couple whose lives fall apart after their two teenage children go missing in the Australian desert. Farrant will direct from a screenplay by Fiona Seres and Michael Kinirons. Naomi Wenck and Macdara Kelleher produce. Dragonfly Pictures and Fastnet Films are the production companies behind the venture.
The film is one of six new features to be backed by Screen Australia, whose chief executive Ruth Harley said: “Kim Farrant’s Strangerland has in incredible cast … a strong creative vision and massive A-list festival potential.”
In another boost for the audiovisual industry, earlier this month Screen Australia announced a landmark scheme to boost the production of high-end TV drama.
