Samwells told THR: "We want to have a small imprint, about 30,000 sq mt. That will ensure a small physical impact. And we will recycle water and become part of the community unlike other studios."

Costing a total of $300m (AUD) and taking advantage of production tax credits, the venture partners are hoping to get final planning approvals by next year and aim to open the Perth facility in 2016, which will be located at Murdoch University.

Recent productions to have shot in Australia include Baz Lurmann’s The Great Gatsby, which filmed predominantly in and around Sydney. The film starring Leonardo Di Caprio and used the Fox Studios facility in Moore Park as well as locations in Balmain and Manly for exterior scenes.
