Chinese language show heads to Seattle

SeattleA new Chinese language series is set to film in Seattle, Washington from early next year. The drama will centre on a group of Chinese nationals as they face the challenges of modern daily life in the US.

Beijing-based DMG Entertainment – the outfit that collaborated on Looper and Iron Man 3 – is behind the project in association with Washington Filmworks and CCTV (China Central Television, the state-run broadcaster).

In a sreported statemnt, DMG CEO and co-founder Dan Mintz commented: “The support from Washington FilmWorks and Governor Inslee’s office has been great and is a clear indication of the future of this collaboration. The Seattle area boasts a highly diverse cultural make-up and that includes a lot of Chinese and Asian communities, which makes it a perfect place to set the show.”

Inslee added “China represents a major trading partner for a wide range of Washington State industries; the agreements signed today with Chinese film and technology companies, like DMG, will be the foundation of our shared economic success.”

The announcement marks part of a new Memorandum of Understanding between Washington Filmworks and DMG Entertainment which was recently signed in Beijing. Among the aims of the new partnership is the promotion of Washington State as an attractive centre for Chinese film production in a bid to build links between the film and creative technology industries.
