Major international co-production TV drama Wolf Hall is no longer destined to shoot in Belgium, as previously planned.
Filming on the hefty historical period piece - for delivery to PBS and BBC Two - will now take place in south west England, with the production based in Bristol. Further UK locations are to be confirmed.
From Company Pictures (UK) in association with Masterpiece Entertainment and Playground Entertainment (US), the six-part drama is an adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s best-selling novel of the same name, and will incorporate her follow-up work, Bring Up the Bodies; both of which won the prestigious Man Booker Prize.
The novels formed a fictionalised biography and charted the rise to power of Thomas Cromwell during the reign of Henry VIII. Acclaimed British actor Mark Rylance is taking on the challenging central role. His film recent credits include The Gunman, which shot in Spain last summer with Javier Bardem, Sean Penn, Idris Elba and Ray Winstone.
