The feature film adaptation of JG Ballard’s High-Rise is currently eyeing a summer shoot, with the news that Thor’s Tom Hiddleston is attached as the lead.
The project has been in development for some time – the director was originally Vincenzo Natali - at The Recorded Picture Company under the watchful gaze of the shingle’s founder, Jeremy Thomas. Gabriella Martinelli joins him on producing duties.
Amy Jump is the screenwriter tasked with adapting the bleak, dystopian work which centres on a luxury residential tower. In typical Ballard style, a sense of class divide, growing violence and destruction unfolds as the inhabitants turn on each other.
A Field in England director Ben Wheatley is at the helm for this one, which is due to start shooting in the UK in June. Wheatley himself excitedly confirmed the casting news on his blog.
