UK industry trade association Pact has signed a deal with Screen Producers Australia (SPA) in a bid to enhance co-production opportunities between the two countries.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will help UK indies expand into Australia and enable better co-operation between Pact and SPA, as well as forming a framework to create a better exchange of information between the two countries.
The news follows on from a similar agreement made in November between Pact and Chinese broadcaster CCTV.
Matthew Deaner, executive director of SPA said: “There is a natural synergy between Australia and Britain, based on cultural, production and regulatory affinities. We believe cooperation between our associations will further strengthen opportunities for developing content that resonates with audiences internationally.”
“TV is a global business and UK independent production companies have seized the initiative in recent years. Exports of indie productions have increased fourfold in just ten years – this agreement with our Australian counterparts is yet another example of our intention to grow our international trade and develop strong and long-lasting business partnerships,” said John McVay, Pact’s chief executive.
