Studio giant Pinewood to open a new facility in Wales
UK studio supremo Pinewood Shepperton has announced it is to open a new four stage complex in Wales.
As part of an exclusive agreement with the Welsh government, Pinewood - which worked on the production of Gravity plus franchises such as Harry Potter and James Bond - will establish a new 180,000 sq ft facility in Cardiff.
The company will enter into a lease for a minimum of five years and will be known as Pinewood Studio Wales.
As part of the deal the studio agreed to contribute a minimum of £0.8m over five years in Wales for the purchase of equipment.
The Welsh government has said it will invest up to £30m from its television and film investment fund in projects brought forward by Pinewood.
Chief executive officer at Pinewood Shepperton Ivan Dunleavy said: "The new fund together with the new facility will do much to boost the Welsh film and television sector.”
He added that the fund was “another step forward for creating a sustainable UK film and television production centre". The complex will be housed in the former Energy Centre next to Cardiff Bay.
Earlier this year, Pinewood also opened the doors of its new studio in Atlanta, Georgia and made an announcement that its Malaysia branch would be gaining a large new post-production facility; Imagica South East Asia.
