The Celtic Group has announced that it has taken over Raleigh Studios in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, which it will operate through its subsidiary, Celtic Studios.
One of the first productions to move into the studio under the new ownership will be Fox’s much-anticipated The Fantastic Four, due to shoot imminently.
To be known as The Celtic Studios, the facility covers nearly 150,000sq ft of stage space, with a further eight acres of paved and unpaved backlot which can be used for set construction or development in the future. There is also around 90,000 sq ft of office space.
Celtic Group chairman and CEO Michael O’Connor said of the changes: “We thank Raleigh for their years of service and appreciate their participation in helping us establish the Celtic Media Centre as a world-class facility for filmmakers.
“The Celtic Group looks forward to beginning a new chapter in motion picture production in Louisiana and Mississippi. Celtic Studios will now offer the same level of service and professionalism found on our campus wherever productions might need equipment and assistance throughout our region, and the Celtic Group will continue to connect productions with Louisiana tax credit buyers.”
Several major projects have utilised the studio space since its completion in 2010, including Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. It is currently hosting Zipper, directed by Mora Stephens and starring Patrick Wilson, Richard Dreyfuss and Lena Headey.
Behemoth Twentieth Century Fox is set to continue the trend for high-profile productions to move in: The Fantastic Four (a Marvel adaptation) is currently in pre-production and gearing up to shoot any day now, directed by Josh Trank. Recent casting reports have mooted a starry line-up of A-listers including Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell.
The state of Louisiana is known as Hollywood South, and is the third most prolific in terms of film production, after California and New York.
