Stunning new ad for Dulux paint
London-based creatives Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) have produced a stunning new ad for Dulux paint.

London-based creatives Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) have produced a stunning new ad for Dulux paint.
The conceit is that of an imagined world devoid of colour, with a Prohibition era- style policing and stamping out of any banned bright hues that appear. The love story that unfolds eventually wins the day, as a couple fall in love and transform their lives through colour.
The spot, called Prohibition, was shot in South Africa, around the old financial district of Johannesburg. It was directed by Christian&Patrick (Christian McKenzie and Patrick Chen), who have a long-standing collaboration with singer songwriter Björk. Their commercials work includes Crashes for Axe, which won a Titanium Award at Cannes Lions. Other advertising credits include Audi, Peugeot and Guinness.
The directors said of the new ad, “We loved the script and immediately knew we wanted to be involved. The central idea of a world stripped of colour seemed so evocative and we could imagine quite clearly how we could develop the story ... The story is a bit of a fairytale but our approach was to bring it to life in as visceral and cinematic a way as possible.”
The rest of the team on Prohibition - the latest in Dulux’s Change Your World campaign - comes with a pretty strong pedigree too: the DoP was Benoit Delhomme (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) and the stunning set and costume design was overseen by Richard Lassalle (My Name is Slim Shady).
