A stellar ensemble cast is gathering to begin filming epic new TV series Banished in Australia.
Shooting starts just north of Sydney in April on the major new period drama, which is from the pen of seasoned British TV scribe Jimmy McGovern (The Lakes, Cracker). It is from UK-based RSJ Films and See-Saw Films, who have offices in London and Paddington, New South Wales.
The cast includes David Wenham (pictured, Top of the Lake); Myanna Buring (Ripper Street); Russell Tovey (Being Human); Julian Rhind-Tutt (The Hour) and Rory McCann (Game of Thrones). The seven-part run is based loosely on the real events of the late 1870s, a time when Britain sent criminals, orphans, whores and highwaymen to a remote part of the world - the place that became Australia.
The series is for delivery to BBC Two in the UK and New Zealand’s UKTV. It is also the first local commission for BBC First, a new premium drama and comedy channel to be launched on Foxtel in Australia this year.
