The film is being produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films and Christian Colson’s Cloud Eight Films.

The screenplay was written by Paul Webb. Ava DuVernay, Paul Garnes, Cameron McCracken and Nan Morales are executive producing.

The big budget production will depict the struggle of Martin Luther King to secure equal voting rights – a journey which led to President Johnson changing the law.

According to the current production schedule, the Alabama Film Office said four days of shooting will take place in Selma, with one day set for Montgomery.

In Selma filming will take place on the exact same bridge where marchers clashed with troopers back in 1965.

“This story will resonate deeply with not only those brave men and women who fought for voting rights alongside Dr. King, but also the countless millions of people who continue to fight against discrimination in voting today,” said Brad Grey, chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures.

“This talented group of filmmakers, led by Brad Pitt and his team at Plan B, Oprah Winfrey and Christian Colson, and of course our director Ava DuVernay, are a formidable force to help bring this significant story to the big screen.”

Paramount and Pathé are handling distribution and sales both domestic and international.

The film stars David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King Jr., Carmen Ejogo as Coretta Scott King, and Tom Wilkinson as Lyndon Baines Johnson.
