Veteran film actor Jean Reno will be in Paris this autumn to film The Squad, a French remake of The Sweeney.

At the helm of the action thriller, which starts shooting in October, is Benjamin Rocher, director of the recent Goal of the Dead.

The feature sees Reno play hardened Paris cop Buren hunting down a dangerous criminal gang run by an underworld boss who is not a fan of Buren’s maverick style of detection…

The UK’s Vertigo Films, who made the 2012 feature version starring Ray Winstone, are collaborating with France’s SND and Capture The Flag Films – the shingle run by Rocher and his brother Benjamin - on the new version, which will be due for release by the end of 2105.

Vertigo’s co-founder James Richardson said of the new project: “Director Benjamin Rocher and producers SND and Capture [The Flag] Films have an incredible vision for this action packed movie set on the streets of Paris. We are tremendously excited to be turning The Sweeney into this brilliant French version with the privilege of being able to work with one of our favorite actors, Jean Reno.”
