A very classy cast is assembling in London for a late September start to shooting on The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses, a major new Shakespeare project from the BBC.
From Neal Street Productions and Carnival Film & TV, the drama comprises three films, adaptations of Henry VI parts 1 and 2 and Richard III – Shakespeare’s tetralogy covering the years 1422 to 1485.
The hefty dramas have attracted some seriously A-list talent, including Benedict Cumberbatch as Richard III, Sophie Okonedo as Queen Margaret, Tom Sturridge as Henry VI and Judi Dench as Cecily, Duchess of York. Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins and Keeley Hawes are also attached.
Dominic Cooke directs all three films from Ben Power’s adaptations. The executive producers are Sam Mendes, Pippa Neal, Nicholas Brown, David Horn and Gareth Neame. Rupert Ryle-Hodges is the producer. Shooting takes place in the UK.
