UK TV drama shoots in London and Bulgaria
A new comedy drama is set to film later this summer in Bulgaria and London.
Aliens comes from UK-based production company Clerkenwell Films, makers of the hit supernatural TV drama Misfits, and is written by In the Flesh scribe Fintan Ryan.
The 6 x 60 series centres on Troy, a segregated community where aliens live in a chaotic and dangerous ghetto behind a vast wall. When Lewis, a mild-mannered human who works at the wall as a checkpoint guard, discovers he is half alien, he becomes drawn into the hedonistic sub-culture on the other side.
Matt Jarvis, Murray Ferguson and Petra Fried executive produce; the series is for delivery to E4, Channel 4’s youth-skewing broadcaster.
Roberto Troni, commissioner at Channel 4, said of the project: “Scabrously funny, shockingly violent and at times positively hallucinogenic, Aliens is a wry and riotous adventure into a world that is at once entirely familiar and absolutely strange. It’s a culture clash, a gangster epic, but fundamentally it is an all too human search for acceptance and identity.”
