Coco Chanel: "I don't do fashion, I am fashion"

When noughties smash-hit film Zoolander - starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson - announced its sequel by having the two stars walk the runway at Paris Fashion Week it – naturally - created a whirlwind of publicity.

There has seemingly always been a large amount of synergy between film and television and fashion, with glitz, glamour and sometimes public scrutiny plaguing both.

Over the last couple of weeks we have seen and heard about more collaboration between the popular industries so here a few projects that caught our eye…

Former footballer – and now fashion icon - David Beckham, Harvey Keitel, Katherine Waterston and Cathy Moriarty have all recently starred in the first fashion short film for Belstaff, promoting the brand’s new Outlaws range.

The short, which was shot in sunny Mexico, had Liv Tyler acting as the executive producer.

The premiere of the film – how could it be any different is set to coincide with the upcoming New York Fashion Week.

Producer Simon Chinn (Man on Wire and Searching for Sugar Man) and Emmy Award-winning Jonathan Chinn have been granted unrivalled access to British Vogue for a new documentary, with the aim to chronicle everything from the lives of the models to the set up of the shows and fashion shoots.

Expect a deep look into the depths of the iconic magazine from the Chinns and director Richard Macer, perhaps shedding more light on the full nature of the fashion business.

Finally, Kristen Stewart – recently announced as a Chanel campaign model – will feature in a film by designer Karl Lagerfeld for the company’s upcoming show.

The story will apparently offer a fictional behind-the-scenes look at the making of a biopic on founder Gabrielle Chanel.

The project took two days to shoot at La Cité du Cinéma in Paris and will be screened at The Métiers d’Arts show on 1 December in Rome.

A variety of actors and actresses have sponsorship deals with brands to wear and promote their material, primarily because the demographics both industries usually target are so similar. Are we set to see more major partnerships between the two trades in the future? Guess we’ll have to wait and find out and keep watching those sponsored social media feeds that are so ‘en vogue’ .
