Jackie Chan film starts production in Dubai

Filming has now started in Dubai on Jackie Chan’s latest feature Kung Fu Yoga. The Rush Hour and Shanghai Knights star is set to begin filming from Monday 28 September for a total of 33 days. This will be Chan’s first time filming in the Middle East.

The film, directed by Stanley Tong, is the first project to be made under the new India/China co-production agreement that was signed in September 2014.

Several action sequences are being shot in Dubai for the movie and around 100 international crew will be involved in the filming process. UAE-based AlKatraz Productions are providing production services and have been working on the project since April. The region is also currently hosting upcoming blockbuster Star Trek Beyond, directed by Justin Lin and starring Chris Pine.

Tong said: “We are greatly looking forward to filming parts of Kung Fu Yoga in Dubai, and the locations we have selected perfectly complement the scenes we are shooting here. Dubai’s iconic skyscrapers and attractions are recognised around the world, and we are excited to work closely with Dubai Film and TV Commission to ensure an enjoyable and successful filming time in Dubai!”

Jamal Al Sharif, chairman of Dubai Film and TV Commission, said: “We are very excited to welcome Jackie Chan and the team to Dubai. The UAE is becoming an increasingly popular destination for Hollywood and Bollywood productions, and the filming of Kung Fu Yoga in Dubai is another major boost for our film industry.”

Dubai is currently the Middle East’s leading production hub and in recent times has played host to films Mission Impossible 4, The Bourne Legacy and Syriana; neighbour Abu Dhabi is also building its reputation as an important regional destination with major projects Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Fast & Furious 7 and Deliver Us from Evil all choosing the area for filming.
