Major reboot of The Mummy heads to film in the UK
The UK has been chosen as the production base for Universal’s major new reboot of The Mummy.
Screenwriter and producer Alex Kurtzman will make his directorial debut on the feature, set in the present day, working from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts. Producers include Kurtzman, Sean Daniel and Roberto Orci.
The project marks the launch of the Hollywood studio’s new shared monsters universe, an idea it started back in the 1940s and now bringing in millions in global box office takings, with powerhouses such as Marvel producing blockbusters like Ant-Man and Avengers; Age of Ultron.
There is no news on casting yet, but many of the HoDs are UK-based. Thanks partly to the attractive tax incentives, the UK has been enjoying its revitalised status as a major international production hub for both feature films and high-end TV drama, with projects including Assassin’s Creed, the new untitled Bourne 5 and Brad Pitt’s Netflix drama War Machine currently based there.
