Drugs thriller Mules, produced by Contraband director Baltasar Kormakur, is eyeing a spring shoot in Iceland, Denmark and Sweden.

Director Börkur Sigthorsson will take the helm, having previously collaborated with Kormakur on Icelandic TV series Trapped. Known mostly for his work on commercials, the director’s credits include videos for Nike, Honda and The Guardian.

Kormakur - who also directed Everest (pic), starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Josh Brolin - will produce the thriller with fellow RVK Studios producer Agnes Johansen.

Co-producers are Anni Faurbye Fernandez (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) and Stinna Lassen (The Team) for Good Company Films in Denmark and Mimmi Spång and Rebecka Lefrenz (both Call Girl) for Garage Film in Sweden.

Industry magazine Screen International describes the plot of the feature film as “the story of two antagonistic brothers who decide to smuggle drugs into their native Iceland using a young Polish girl as their mule. When everything goes off the rails, the brothers’ fate spirals out of control in a life-or-death race against time.”

It was announced yesterday that WestEnd Films has acquired worldwide rights to the feature.
