Portugal plans to launch a filming incentive programme at the Cannes Film Festival this June.
The south-western European country already has a thriving commercials production industry and the Lisboa Film Office was launched in 2013 to streamline production in the capital.
A formal filming incentive will help boost the country’s profile and will enable it to compete more effectively with its neighbours Spain and France.
France boosted its Tax Rebate for International Production in January this year and within weeks had confirmed that Christopher Nolan would shoot much of his new movie Dunkirk in many of the actual locations in northern France.
Spain now offers a 15% filming incentive and has enjoyed separate profile boosts with the likes of Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings, and Game of Thrones.
