Star Trek TV series to film at Pinewood Toronto
A new Star Trek TV series will film in Toronto, CBS Studios confirmed over the weekend, and filming will reportedly be based at Pinewood Toronto Studios.
The new drama will be the first Star Trek TV series since Enterprise (pictured), which ran between 2001 and 2005.
Paramount Pictures successfully relaunched the movie franchise in 2009 and new film Star Trek Beyond opens in July this year.
Alex Kurtzman, a co-writer and producer on the new Star Trek movie franchise, will executive produce the TV series, but it will not be related to the films.
Star Trek will be based on Pinewood Toronto Studios’ 46,000-sq-ft ‘mega stage’, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Toronto is one of the top production hubs in North America, with a generous filming incentive and world-class studio facilities. Pinewood Toronto Studios recently announced plans to expand its existing facilities, with 135,000 sq ft of additional workshop facilities and production offices.
Nearly 30 different productions are currently filming in Ontario, including a movie version of Stephen King’s horror story It, which was first made into a cult TV miniseries in the early 90s.
