Julie Delpy, the French screenwriter, actor, singer-songwriter and director, is set to direct a film in the UK next spring called My Zoe.
Delpy has written the screenplay and will star in the feature alongside Daniel Bruhl and Gemma Arterton. The film centres on a fractured family and explores the lengths to which a mother’s love goes for her child.
Delpy gave a little background about how the themes of the project and how it came about: “I started thinking and taking notes about this film over 20 years ago,” said Delpy. “It first came to my mind discussing with [director Krzysztof] Kieslowski about parenting, love and fate. The film is about the unconditional love you feel as a parent.
“It was a very profound process to write it. I gave it all the truth I had and I hope it resonates with others.”
NY-based Gabrielle Tana produces for Baby Cow, the UK production company founded by Steve Coogan and Henry Normal. Dominique Boutannat and Hubert Caillard are attached to co-produce for Electrick Films in France.
