High River near Calgary will again be used for exterior scenes in the fictional Little Big Bear.
The production team spent CA$1m shooting in the town for the show’s first season and used visual effects to augment backdrops with mountain peak images shot elsewhere in Alberta.
Production spending in Canada’s provinces – including Alberta – rose six-fold in 2016-17, according to figures from the Canadian Media Producers Association.
Alberta has seen its production profile rise steadily in recent years, partly through hosting the critically-acclaimed TV adaptation of Fargo.
Vancouver overtook Toronto last year as Canada’s main filming hub, with international production spending reaching CA$2.3bn in 2016-17.
