John Woo is planning to direct a remake of his iconic 1989 action thriller The Killer in France and Germany.
Woo’s original movie features Chinese stars Chow Yun-Fat and Danny Lee, and tells the story of an assassin who takes on a final job to get the money to help rebuild the life of a woman he has accidentally blinded.
The film shot on location in Hong Kong and immediately became renowned for its visually-arresting brand of balletic gun violence.
Woo’s new version is set to adopt a similar tone but with switched filming locations, according to a Deadline report.
Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o (pictured in Marvel Studios' Black Panther) is likely to star in the role of the assassin.
France has become a more viable international filming location since the government overhauled the country’s incentive support.
Production in Germany tends to be based at Studio Babelsberg near Berlin, which frequently partners with Hollywood producers when big-budget movies choose to film in the country.
