Come Away is an origins story about Peter Pan and Alice - of Alice in Wonderland - with David Oyelowo and Angelina Jolie set to star.
Now in pre-production in the UK, Come Away will be the live-action directorial debut of animation veteran Brenda Chapman who, in 1998, became the first woman to direct an animated feature for a major studio when she helmed DreamWorks Animation’s The Prince of Egypt.
When Chapman went on to co-direct Brave for Disney/Pixar, she became the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
Written by Marissa Kate Goodhill, Come Away is from UK-based Fred Films. The feature is being set up as a prequel to Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan, and is set in a world where the two are brother and sister. Jolie and Oyelowo will play their parents.
Jolie has been busy in the UK recently on two major Disney projects – principal photography is underway on Maleficent 2 and cameras have been rolling since April on The One and Only Ivan, for which Jolie provides voice work and on which she is a producer.
