Shepperton Studios near London in the UK is now consulting with local authorities and stakeholders on plans to expand with new production facilities.

Part of the Pinewood Studios Group, Shepperton wants to develop resources including new stages, offices and back lots.

“Shepperton Studios plays an important role in the successful UK film and television industry,” said Andrew Smith of Shepperton.

“The studios attract major and independent production companies from around the world to shoot in the UK.

"Our proposals are designed to both improve and expand the existing facilities such that we can continue to meet the demand for high-end studio space and thus ensure the ongoing success of the UK’s creative sector.”

Shepperton currently offers 14 sound stages and ten acres of back lots, and has hosted Hollywood movies including The Mummy, Disney's live-action version of Beauty and the Beast and the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns (pictured), scheduled for release this Christmas.

Several of the UK’s key studio facilities in and around London are engaged in long-term development plans as they seek to cater for the international demand created by the UK’s appealing combination of generous filming incentive support and skilled crew base.

In March, authorities in London announced their preferred bidder for a new studio in the east of the city that could start construction next year. The facility will be the first studio to be built within London in several decades.
