New Jersey on America’s eastern seaboard has launched a base 30% tax credit as a filming incentive, with an annual fund of up to $85m for the next five years.

Producers can in fact claim support of up to 37% if they shoot in certain New Jersey counties and offer a diversity programme.

“We have been travelling all over the state with a number of producers scouting scores of locations for major productions,” said Steven Gorelick, executive director of the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission, in comments to the Motion Picture Association of America.

“There are at least ten motion picture productions and 15 television series – ranging from television networks and cable/satellite programme services to internet distributors – that are looking for locations in New Jersey or are in the planning stages to greenlight projects.”

New Jersey has hosted scenes from a variety of US films and TV shows in recent years, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s relationship drama Don Jon (pictured). However, the state has been largely eclipsed by neighbouring production hub New York and, to a lesser extent, nearby Massachusetts.
