Netflix’s big-budget action movie Six Underground is filming on location in Florence, Italy, as part of a global shoot schedule.
Directed by action filmmaker Michael Bay, a veteran of the lucrative Transformers movie franchise, Six Underground features Ryan Reynolds among its stars.
The film has a budget reported to be in the region of $130m, which would make it Netflix’s biggest production to date.
Story details have yet to be released but the film reunites Reynolds with Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and industry reports suggest the narrative style will blend the humour of Deadpool with the action of Mission: Impossible.
The current Florence leg of production will span the next two weeks, according to local media outlet The Florentine, with significant focus on the city’s historic region around Santa Croce.
Abu Dhabi is also reported to be among the movie’s planned filming locations.
Italy offers a 25% tax credit as a filming incentive, with payments capped at €10m. The country has had a profile boost in recent months hosting a TV drama adaptation of Joseph Heller’s satirical novel Catch-22, which features George Clooney as co-director and also a co-star.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Italy’s iconic production Cinecitta Studios would be expanding with the help of government investment totalling nearly €40m.
