Niels Arden Oplev is directing fellow Dane Esben Smed as Rye.
Screen reports that Toby Kebbell will play the late US journalist James Foley, who was for a time held in the same place as Rye but was eventually executed by ISIS.
“We are very excited about the material that we already have shot with Toby and we are looking forward to continue the work with him in Jordan,” said Oplev in comments to Screen.
Jordan is a popular filming location for screen stories with Middle Eastern settings. British filmmaker Ridley Scott has been one of the higher-profile regular visitors in recent years, having shot scenes locally for All the Money in the World and The Martian.
