The mayor of Montreal is leading a delegation from the Canadian city to Los Angeles in a bid to boost Hollywood’s interest in Quebec as a production location.

Valerie Plante will meet with various Hollywood studios this week and is particularly looking to sell Montreal as an effective stand-in for cities like New York and Paris, according to news outlet CBC.

Quebec offers competitive incentive support for filming and post-production.

Montreal has been a favourite base for several X-Men movies – including the upcoming Dark Phoenix – as well as Amazon’s action series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan (pictured).

Roland Emmerich’s war film Midway is currently in production at the city’s MELS Studios.

Scanline VFX and Technicolor are among the post houses helping to boost Montreal’s thriving visual effects industry with new offices in the city.

Nonetheless, Montreal’s direct spending revenue from films and TV shows is far below that of Vancouver, which is Canada’s main international production hub.

Hollywood executives are likely to be looking for assurances on the future development of studio facilities, while also seeking easier access to some of Montreal’s more striking locations – the historic streets of Old Montreal are reportedly sought after by US producers.
