Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson are set to film in Miami and New Orleans for sci-fi thriller Reminiscence.
The film is set in a future Miami that has become partly submerged as a result of global warming and will feature Jackman as a private investigator who specialises in supplying clients with vivid recaptured memories.
Lisa Joy will write and direct, building on her experience gained most recently as a writer and executive producer on HBO’s Westworld.
Production on Reminiscence is likely to focus on studio filming in New Orleans.
Miami lacks the facilities needed to create a story world on the scale required for the production and Florida’s state filming incentive support has been long defunded.
New Orleans offers studio infrastructure, a competitive filming incentive programme and a deep local crew base, all of which have helped turn Louisiana into one of America's top production hubs.
Miami remains a popular story setting for films and TV shows, but other parts of the US are usually doubled for the city.
There are occasional exceptions, the most recent of which are connected to Miami writer Tarell Alvin McCraney. Feature film Moonlight was based on a story by McCraney and was shot in Miami by writer/director Barry Jenkins (pictured), after which it defied the odds to eventually win Best Picture at the Academy Awards in 2017.
McCraney’s social drama David Makes Man was filmed in Florida last year for Oprah Winfrey Network, but needed to renovate studio facilities in Orlando.
