Paramount feature Monster Problems will be the first film to shoot at the recently-opened Screen Queensland Studios in Brisbane.

The movie is a coming-of-age story set in a post-apocalyptic world over-run by monsters.

Shawn Levy, a veteran of Netflix series Stranger Things and Ben Stiller’s Night at the Museum movies, is on board as producer and Michael Matthews will direct.

Monster Problems is scheduled to spend around A$30m in Queensland and create about 260 local crew jobs.

“As well as filming at the Screen Queensland Studios, Monster Problems will also showcase Queensland’s stunning and diverse locations to an international audience and we’ll maximise tourism opportunities available during the filming and when released in cinemas around the world,” said Tracey Vieira, CEO of Screen Queensland.

Queensland is a popular filming location for big-budget features. Producers can access Australia’s federal filming incentive as well as support through Queensland’s Screen Production Investment.

Screen Queensland Studios offers a pair of sound stages, warehouse space and production office facilities in the Hemmant suburb of eastern Brisbane.

Village Roadshow Studios is Queensland’s largest production facility further south outside the city of Gold Coast. A movie version of children’s TV show Dora the Explorer wrapped there at the end of last year and the studios are now home to monster movie Godzilla vs Kong.
