Amazon’s upcoming teen drama The Power will film around the world from later this year.

Based on a 2016 novel by Naomi Alderman, the story charts a scenario where all teenage girls gradually develop the genetic ability to electrocute people at will, and charts how this affects the gender power balance around the world.

London-based Sister Pictures is producing the ten-part drama for Amazon, with story settings set to include London, Arizona, Nigeria and Moldova. Reed Morano (pictured) will direct.

“From the moment we read Naomi Alderman’s propulsive, illuminating and ground-breaking novel, the whole team at Sister Pictures knew we wanted to work with her to bring it to life,” said Jane Featherstone, founder of Sister Pictures, and Naomi De Pear, an executive producer with the company.

“We are so delighted that together we have found our home at Amazon and the perfect director in Reed, where we will be able to make a show that foregrounds Naomi’s extraordinary characters as they journey through the biggest reversal in human history.”

Sister Pictures is currently in production on Netflix drama Giri/Haji that explores the ripple effects of a single murder in Tokyo and London, and is currently in production in both cities.

Last year, Sister Pictures worked with The Mighty Mint to co-produce Chernobyl. The drama charts the events of the infamous 1986 nuclear reactor disaster and filmed largely in Lithuania as part of a production pact between Sky and HBO.
