Bad Wolf calls for Welsh crew training plan
A co-founder of major Wales-based production company Bad Wolf has called on the Welsh government to co-ordinate more effective long-term crew training.

A co-founder of major Wales-based production company Bad Wolf has called on the Welsh government to co-ordinate more effective long-term crew training.
Speaking at the RTS Wales Annual Lecture, Jane Tranter called for a “joint strategy” to be devised between the Welsh government and the country’s production industry to build on Wales’ existing film and TV infrastructure, Wales Online reports.
Tranter said that a sustainable long-term strategy is needed soon to ensure that the Welsh industry is not affected by a crew shortage, should multiple international productions want to film locally at the same time.
“Bad Wolf will do its bit but everyone else in the industry has to commit to do the same too – and the government can’t expect us to do it all on our own,” Tranter commented.
“To take it to its next stage of development, a joint strategy between the industry and Government is needed. One that ensures sustainability for the production houses and the supply chain companies that are already located and embedded here in Wales.”
Tranter added that a “bespoke” strategy was needed for crew training in order to remain flexible alongside the demands of the production industry.
Bad Wolf has set up Wolf Studios Wales as an adapted production space at Trident Park in Cardiff. The facility offers six stages and has so far hosted a season of the Sky hit A Discovery of Witches and the first series of an expansive TV adaptation of His Dark Materials for the BBC and HBO.
The production company also works with local schools to introduce children to the TV industry through organised visits to Wolf Studios Wales.
