Barcelona-based Mediapro Group has launched subsidiary The Mediapro Studio to expand its international production footprint.

The Mediapro Studio has plans for ten ‘creative offices’ around the world and already has 34 series in production, with plans to invest €200m in Europe, the Americas and the Middle East.

As an organisation, Mediapro Group already has 58 offices on four continents and has been involved with recent productions including Paolo Sorrentino’s drama The Young Pope (pictured).

“The time has come to move beyond our role as a production company and to become a studio,” said Jaume Roures, managing partner of Mediapro Group, in a statement.

“For 25 years we have produced hundreds of great quality projects all around the world, with the ability to develop global content all the way from the concept to broadcasting, including executive production and artistic direction.

“Because of this, we feel we are ready to go one step further and create unique content.”

Spain’s production industry has shifted into sharper international focus in the past couple of years since launching formal filming incentive support.

Netflix has been particularly active in the country over the past year. The streaming giant established a production hub at Ciudad de la Tele (TV City) near Madrid last year and in February announced five new Spanish dramas in various stages of development.
