Drama series Cannes Confidential is in development and has exclusive permission to film on location in its namesake city in France.

Stockholm production company Dramacorp is working on the ten-part English-language show that will follow the Cannes-based adventures of a female cop and a Canadian former conman.

The series will be structured around closed-ended individual episodes but also have a season-long arc with stories that focus on the everyday reality of Cannes life and not just the city’s glamorous surface sheen.

British writer Chris Murray is involved with the drama as a co-creator.

‘Cannes’ is trademarked as a city name, so Dramacorp has secured permission to use the name in the drama’s title and to shoot locally.

“The opportunity to work on a series that combines crime and humour, that is both heart-warming and heart-stopping, all set against the backdrop of Cannes and the French Riviera, is massively exciting,” said Murray.

Cannes Confidential will be the first English-language drama series to be set on France’s Cote d’Azur since The Persuaders in the 1970s.

France’s Tax Rebate for International Production (or TRIP programme) is a 30% filming incentive that has helped boost the country’s global appeal in recent years.
