A major Marvel movie will shoot at Fox Studios Australia later this year, having secured filming incentive support worth A$24m from the government of New South Wales.

The film has not yet been named but is scheduled to spend over A$100m in New South Wales and will create nearly 800 jobs.

Australia has recently hosted superhero films Aquaman and Thor: Ragnarok (pictured), but both used Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland as production bases.

New South Wales has previously hosted post-production work on seven separate projects from Marvel Studios, but this is the first Marvel movie to actually shoot locally.

“Marvel Studios thanks the Australian and NSW governments and is thrilled to be returning to Australia to work with the talented and highly skilled Australian crew, stunt performers and actors together with the thousands of small businesses across Australia that supply world-class equipment, goods, facilities and services to large-budget productions,” said David Grant, vice-president of Marvel Studios.

The specific future slate for Marvel Studios will remain speculative until the release of Avengers: Endgame later this month, which will reveal the fates of many of the key characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel parent company Disney has now acquired 21st Century Fox, meaning it also takes ownership of Fox Studios Australia. This could lead to more Disney productions shooting at the Sydney facility.

Fox Studios Australia offers nine stages and a 75-acre back lot as part of its production resources.
