A remake of Charlie Brooker’s 2008 satirical drama Dead Set is filming in Brazil with independent production company Conspiração.

The Brazilian show is called Reality Z and follows a group of reality TV contestants who become trapped in their studio setting when a zombie apocalypse strikes Rio de Janeiro.

Cláudio Torres has adapted the series and the shoot marks Netflix’s first collaboration with Conspiração in Brazil. Netflix already has a relationship with Brooker through the dystopian drama Black Mirror.

“The combination of Cláudio Torres' creative vision, our partnership with Conspiração and the talent involved in this project will make this adaptation of Charlie Brooker's hilarious series Dead Set a truly special event for horror fans around the world,” said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix.

“What is even more exciting for us is that these carioca zombies form part of the slate of 30 original series and films from Brazil premiering through 2020.”

Reality Z marks an escalation of Netflix’s investment in Brazil. Last year the streaming giant announced its involvement with supernatural drama Spectros in Sao Paulo, along with crime series The Faction.
