The BBC’s upcoming drama adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula story has filmed Slovakia as Transylvania and is now shooting at Bray Studios in the UK.

Production began on the three-part series in early March and filming has already taken place at the 13th century Orava Castle in northern Slovakia.

Orava Castle is significant in the legacy of the Dracula story as the filming location used for the iconic 1922 vampire film Nosferatu.

Hartswood Films is producing the new adaptation of Dracula, which is written by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, creators of the BBC’s Sherlock. Claes Bang stars as Count Dracula and the rest of the cast includes Jonathan Aris, Sacha Dhawan, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and Catherine Schell.

Bray Studios, in Berkshire west of London, is also iconic in the history of British horror as the former home of Hammer Film Productions.

“It's seriously delightful that our new Dracula is being shot at Bray Studios - the former home of Hammer Films!” said Gatiss.

“This wonderfully atmospheric and legendary studio gave birth to so many famous monsters and stars - most memorably Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. As we watch Transylvania once again rise on the sound stages of Bray, it's amazing to be able to say that Count Dracula has finally come home.”

The Dracula story most recently inspired the 2014 film Dracula Untold, which shot in Northern Ireland, and a short-lived 2013 TV drama for NBC and Sky Living that filmed Budapest as Victorian London.
