Netflix commissions first Egyptian drama

Netflix has ordered its third Middle Eastern original drama, Paranormal, that is expected to film in Egypt.

The show is based on the series of books by Ahmed Khaled Tawfik, which have sold more than 15 million copies in the Arab world.

Set in the 1960s, the drama follows Dr Refaat Ismail, a haematologist who encounters a series of supernatural events.

Mohamed Hefzy and Amr Salama produce with Salama also showrunning and directing.

"I’m proud to be working with Netflix on bringing to life the PARANORMAL series, which I hold dear to my heart” Hefzy said.

“I’m also excited to be co-operating again with long-time collaborator and friend, director Amr Salama. Together with Netflix, we aim to present a show of international quality and that lives up to the promises and ambitions of Egyptian and Arabic drama."

Paranormal is the third Middle Eastern Netflix original show, following Jinn and Al Rawabi School for Girls.
