A major new feature starring Nicolas Cage is set to film in Cyprus, the first inward investment project to benefit from the country’s new film incentive scheme.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jiu Jitsu – a martial arts sci-fi action movie – will be directed by Dimitri Logothetis with a budget of around $27.5m.
Alain Moussi – a veteran of Logothetis’ Kickboxer action films – also stars in the movie, which is written by the director alongside Jim McGrath.
The new incentive scheme in Cyprus offers a cash rebate of up to 25%-35% on eligible expenditure incurred in the country.
There is also a tax credit offering and tax allowances on equipment and VAT returns on expenditure. Qualifying productions include features, TV dramas, documentaries and animation.
