A 14-week shoot on a TV adaptation of Little Birds wraps today, 28 June.

The six-part drama is an adaptation of Anais Nin’s works erotic short stories, set in Tangiers in the 1950s against a backdrop of political intrigue during the last days of colonial hedonism.

Tarifa and Algeciras in southern Spain were used to double for the Moroccan city, with the rest of the filming taking place in Manchester.

UK-based Warp Films is behind the series - for delivery to Sky Atlantic – with director Stacie Passon working from scripts by Sophia Al-Maria.

Spain is a high-profile production destination with a national film commission as well as many regional film offices.

When Game of Thrones first filmed in the country the production was supported by the Andalusia Film Commission, the Seville Film Office and the Osuna Film Office. Recent high-profile features to have used Spanish backdrops include Wonder Woman 1984 and a reboot of the Terminator franchise.

Spain also offers many world-class facilities, experienced crew and a tax credit, which rises to up to 40% in the Canary Islands. Netflix has recently boosted the country’s film-friendly profile by setting up a production hub in Madrid.
