Kung Fury 2 to film in Bulgaria and Germany

The action film, starring Michael Fassbender and Arnold Schwarzenegger, will go into production on July 29.

Kung Fury 2 is a feature-length follow-up to the cult 2015 short Kung Fury, a homage to 1980s martial arts and police action films, which premiered in Cannes and amassed in excess of 40 million views on YouTube.

The film is the brainchild of Swedish filmmaker David Sandberg, who returns as director and as the time-travelling, Nazi-bashing titular hero. Shooting will take place across both Bulgaria and Germany, although exact locations in these countries are yet to be confirmed.

Creasun Entertainment USA, the recently launched LA- based financing and production arm of Minglu Ma’s Asian VFX powerhouse Creasun Media, has a majority stake in the film and is a co-producer. Creasun joins Argent Pictures, the production and financing outfit run by Jill Ahrens, Ryan Ahrens and Ben Renzo, who is co-financing and co-producing the project. Conor McCaughan of DMC Film is also co-producing.

Endeavor Content is handing international sales for Kung Fury 2, and co-repping with CAA Media Finance for North American rights.
