The latest in the action franchise is being partly filmed across the south-east Asian country this month.
The ninth edition of the Fast and the Furious franchise is shooting all over Thailand, including Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi and Surat Thani from 1 July – 27 July.
It is estimated that the production will inject about 340 million baht into the local economy and film industry, using local crew as support.
The arrival of the Fast and Furious cars in Krabi has already proved an online sensation in Thailand. Krabi governor, M.L. Kitibadee, says the film is hoped to be a “great advertisement for the nature, culture and history of the kingdom.”
The latest instalment is likely to see many of the familiar cast members return, including Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Charlize Theron, and is due for release on May 22, 2020.
The Fast and the Furious is Universal’s biggest franchise of all time, raking in a combined gross of more than $5bn. A tenth instalment is also planned.
