AMC anthology drama to film in Madrid

AMC’s forthcoming anthology drama series will film in and around the Spanish capital later this year.

Currently untitled, the project comes from writers Will Bridges (Black Mirror; Stranger Things) and Brett Goldstein (Superbob; Adult Life Skills) and is based on a short film the pair wrote called For Life.

Each hour-long episode will feature a new story and fresh cast, and explores an imagined world around 15 years from now when science discovers a way for everyone to find their soul mate.

AMC is working on the show with executive producer Jolyon Symonds of UK-based Fearless Minds.

David Madden, president of programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios, said of the commission when it was first announced: “This is AMC’s first foray into non-serialized story-telling, and we’re trying to do so in the boldest way possible. The show explores how technological innovation can impact the most delicate matters of the heart, and each episode will turn personal life choices into high-stakes drama.”

Spain offers a long-established 20% filming incentive that rises to 40% in the Canary Islands. Madrid’s film-friendly profile has been further raised recently with the announcement that Netflix is opening a production hub, Tres Santos, just outside the city, and is already working on seven new Spanish drama commissions.
