Netflix is set to produce a Korean original series called Round Six about a dangerous survival game.
The show follows a group of people who fail at life for various reasons and then suddenly receive a mysterious invitation to participate in a survival game to win $10m. The competitors are locked up at an unknown location until there is a final winner.
Round Six draws on popular Korean children’s games from the 1970s and 80s.
The drama will be directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, whose recent film, The Fortress (pictured right) won numerous awards including best screenplay at Blue Dragon Film Awards.
He also directed Miss Granny which, when released in South Korea in January 2014, came second at the box office only to Frozen on its opening day, and went to take nearly $60m worldwide.
“I’m already thrilled at the prospect of introducing Round Six to global audience through Netflix. I also have high expectations for the great collaborative work I’ll be having with them,” said Hwang.
