Exclusive: Spain's Sunrise Pictures to make thriller Like a Killer

Spanish outfits Sunrise Pictures and Telespan are set to produce a feature film, Like a Killer (Parecido a un Asesinato), which will shoot across Spain next year.

Antonio Hernandez (Captain Thunder, The Hidden) will direct the project and Rafa Calatayud is writing the script, based on Juan Bolea’s best-selling novel of the same name.

The story revolves around Eva, who lives with her second husband, Nazario, and his troubled son Alex, but who is then stalked by her manipulative ex-husband, Jose.

The cast includes Blanca Suárez (The Skin I Live In) and Eduard Fernández (Biutiful).

“The plan is to film in autumn 2020 in Madrid, Zaragoza and the Pyrenees of Huesca,” confirmed Ramiro Acero, a producer at Sunrise Pictures, to KFTV. “The film is being made with the participation of Aragon TV and the collaboration of the Aragon government.”

Vertice Cine is handling distribution for Spain.

Sunrise Pictures is also producing Iñaki Sánchez Arrieta’s directorial feature debut, The Mud (El Lodo), about a renowned biologist, Ricardo, who returns to his childhood town in Laguna Blanca, San Pedro, to protect it from ecological damage, but faces fierce resistance from locals.

“Shooting is planned to take place in the Albufera Natural Park in Valencia next May,” said Acero. “We have support from the Valencia Institute of Culture for the project and Vertice Cine will handle distribution in Spain.”
