Alex Rider series filmed in Romania

A new TV adaptation of the Alex Rider novels by Anthony Horowitz spent three weeks filming in Romania with the surrounding mountains doubling for the Alps part of the story setting.

The area is a popular ski resort and winter sports hub close to the Bucegi mountains.

UK-based Eleventh Hour Films is working with Sony Pictures Television on the eight-episode series, which is set to wrap by the end of August.

The majority of the shoot took place in and around London.

Romania offers a competitive incentive for filmmakers – in the summer of 2018 it launched a base cash rebate of 35% with a further 10% available for productions that specifically promote the country.

Recent high-profile productions to have filmed in Romania include Corin Hardy's feature horror The Nun.
